Cavendish University Zambia is pleased to announce to the General Public that it has appointed Prof. Mutale Mike Musonda as Vice Chancellor with effect from 23rd May, 2016. He replaces Prof. Olubayi Olubayi.
Prof. Musonda brings to Cavendish University a wealth of achievement and experience having worked in the Higher Education sector for over 30 years. The new Vice-Chancellor served as Vice Chancellor of Zambia Open University (ZAOU) from March 2014 to April 2016. Prof. Musonda also served as Executive Director of the African Council for Distance Education (ACDE) based in Nairobi Kenya from March 2012 to March 2014. Prior to that he also served at the Copperbelt University (CBU) in the capacity of Vice Chancellor for 9 years and is credited with his vision of transformation of the institution. Prof Musonda is also a former Dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine at University of Zambia of which he played a part in its (the school's) establishment in 1984. In public service, he has served as Chairman, Vice Chairman and member on numerous professional, academic and statutory boards locally and internationally.
Prof Musonda holds a PhD in Comparative Veterinary Pathology from Azabu University, Japan; Postgraduate Diploma in Veterinary Pathology from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences Royal Veterinary College, Uppsala; and a Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Nairobi, Kenya. He holds Post- Doctoral certificates in: i. Executive Education - Science, Technology and Innovation Policy (2008) (John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, USA); ii. heavy metal aquatic environmental pollution monitoring techniques (1997) (admitted to the Institute of Biology of the United Kingdom Modules; 1, 2, & 3 of the Animals Scientific Procedures Act 1986, Freshwater and Marine Fish) (University of Plymouth, United Kingdom); iii. African Epizootic Diseases (1995) (University of Pretoria, South Africa) and iv. New Institutional Economics and the Restructuring of Veterinary and Human Health Care Systems in Africa (1993) (University of California at Berkeley, USA). He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons of Sweden (1983, Uppsala); and was conferred Africa/India Partnership Summit Le Matinal Educational Excellence Award for Outstanding Contribution to Education (2011, Mauritius). He has supervised postgraduate students and published several research papers on animal diseases and environmental pollution.
The Chancellor, His Excellency Dr. Kenneth D. Kaunda, the University Council, Management and staff would like to extend a warm welcome to the incoming Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mutale Musonda. Prof. Musonda takes over from outgoing Vice-Chancellor Prof. Olubayi who has taken up a similar role at Maarifa Education, our parent company.
